Printing Digital Designs on Specialty PAper

11/17/2022

In this post I'm sharing a review of some specialty papers (specifically vellum & canvas) that I use for printing digital designs for my crafting & memory keeping projects.

I'm honored to be a brand ambassador for Ali Edwards Design Inc.  And in this post I'll be using the digital files of these super cute die cut trees that sold out like hotcakes on December Daily release day.  This set of 5 die cut trees were printed with gold foil accents on transparent plastic.  I was lucky enough to get a set to create with for my Product Play lesson (here's a sneak peek of my page idea coming on Nov. 18th) where I create the most magical wintery page with these trees.

But I also wanted to find a way that you could recreate this foundation page using the digital version of the trees.  Hence, this blog post!

In the video below I share a quick tutorial to show how I set up a page design with the digital trees using Canva.  (Don't stress, Canva is free & easy to use design software for everyone)

In this next video, I share my printed page reviews.
I printed each letter sized page on my home printer; an HP Envy Photo 7155 that I've had for a few years now.   I don't believe it's still available, but this one looks like it might be the newest version.   I have also cut down these papers and printed digital designs with my Epson PM-400 photo printer with great results!
Once my pages were all printed, I wanted to recreate the gold foil accents that were on the plastic die cut trees.   A crafty friend of mine, Jessica, highly recommended these paint markers from Hobby Lobby and I have to totally agree with her on this.  They are fantastic!

In this next video I test out the gold paint marker on my pages.
And in this video below I share my thought on how the gold looks on each type of paper.
And as promised here's the information for the specialty papers I used in the video.

No. 1 | Grafix Vellum 30# weight
My favorite all round vellum!

No. 2 | Jam Paper Vellum 36# weight
A good choice for thicker paper like vellum

No. 3 | Inkjet Art Paper // Canvas
An off-white thicker textured canvas
No. 4 | Canvas Pad // Cotton Canvas
A thinner, smoother fabric like texture

In the end, I chose paper No.3 to use for my next project; a handmade beaded ornament.  It's giving me all the Anthropologie vibes.

BeAded EMBELLISHED TREES

It's easy to embellish these canvas paper trees to make them your own; just a heads up that it will take you a bit of time to string the beads.  I used metallic gold embroidery floss and a mix of tiny seed beads and sequins I had on hand in my craft supplies.  I found it relaxing and a change of page from paper crafting.   The stitches are secured on the backside with washi tape to hold the ends in place.  Then I covered the backside with a card stock pattern paper and adhered them together with this adhesive.   Once it was dry, I fussy cut out the tree shape outline.  Then punched a small hole in the top of the star, making sure it wasn't too close to the top, and attached gold embroidery thread for hanging.

There are so many options out there when it comes to all the designs, products and fun stuff you can use in scrapbooking.   If you're anything like me, you'll love it all and be tempted to buy everything!!  But let's be honest...can you (will you) actually use all of it?   Probably not.
I put together this post to share how I used a few repeating products + page designs to create a cohesive look to my 2021 December Daily album.

Little Window Cards // December Daily

Canva Tutorial

I missed out on adding these to my cart on December Daily product release day, and for a minute,  the FOMO was real.  But look at this!!  I just made the cutest little window card with Ali's digitals + template in Canva. It took some trial and error, but best part is I got it figured it out!  And I'm sharing it here with all of you.  It prints as a .pdf double sided, which is awesome because it cuts down on the bulk.   And I love that it's digital because I can change it up and add pattern papers to the template.

I created these using Canva, and if you're not familiar with using Canva I suggest this class to get you up to speed quickly on how to use Canva for memory keeping.
In the video below I'm going to walk you through how I set my template up for printing as a .pdf on my HP Envy Photo 7155 printer, which I've had for a few years now.  I believe it's discontinued, but this printer looks to be similar.
