HALLOWEEN PENNANTS

Handmade Halloween Series
It's fun to make a little bit of your own magic at Halloween. I've always loved the look of little flags & banners that can be tucked into a little gift such as a boo basket or added to your haunted holiday decor.

These are super easy to make with the printable designs I've put together that come as a bonus in this template.  I also created a special freebie pennant set for the Teal Pumpkin Project. These would be great to stick in the "alternative" basket of treats for your trick or treaters with food sensitivities. When printing at home I like to use double sided matte photo paper because it prints the colors so vibrantly and I don't have to keep track of which side of the paper is the printable side. They both are! I was able to pick up a big bundle of black & white trims at Michaels which had a lot of variety and then shopped for the embellishments from supplies I had on hand. Digging through my stash I found some sequins and smaller paper punches. I used glitter paper to punch the stars & bats. Think about the things you might have in your stash that you could use to add some sparkly magic to your banners.  Below is my supply list & simple steps to customize your own banners.

Supplies Needed
  • printable white card stock or matte photo paper (recommended)
  • 3/16" x 12" wooden dowels
  • assorted thin ribbons & trims
  • assorted sequins & embellishments
  • hot glue gun (or strong glue suitable for project)
  • paper glue or foam/glue dots
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • optional; paper punches & glitter paper
Instructions
  1. Gather your supplies
  2. Open & print the attached .pdf pennant printable from this template
  3. Cut out the pennants with scissors or use a paper cutter for a straighter line
  4. Lay out your pennant on a flat surface & place embellishments.  When you have them where you like them, glue/stick them in place.
  5. Turn pennant face down on flat surface.
  6. Put a bead of hot glue (or strong adhesive) along the backside edge of the pennant.
  7. Place wooden dowel on top of glue and hold in place until well set.
  8. Cut 2-3 pieces of ribbon/trim approx. 12-13" long and bundle together.
  9. Tie trims around dowel just below the paper pennant.
  10. TaDa! You just created your super cute pennant!

These little flags go together very quickly. And I found them so fun to make I couldn't stop at just one. These would be an easy project to make as a DIY craft activity your next  Halloween Party; for kids or adults!
